Motherhood is WAR! Yes, I did just say that and I know that even
if you can’t say it out loud, somewhere inside you, you are screaming it. A beautiful, painful, challenging, never-ending, sometimes soul crushing, often laugh
inducing WAR! I have heard
it is REWARDING…though I am still crawling through the mud on the obstacle course
and will have to get back to you on that.
With daily battles with the kids, the budget, and time; often the
hardest fought and biggest defeat is with YOURSELF! But Girl, let me tell you something…You are
rockin’ it! You may have lost the battle
at the breakfast table, maybe you forgot to sign the permission slip and hell,
maybe your son thinks you are the meanest mom ever because you took away the
PlayStation 3 after seeing he is failing 3 classes! (I mean, really, How Could You do That?!?!) The
war is not won based on the last battle, it is the sum of ALL battles from day
one until you are but a fond memory. So
stand tall, brush off the defeats, try to find the humor in everything
(especially the defeats) and celebrate the wins! As a single mom of 3 humans and 2 fur babies
with a full-time job and a small online business, I have many defeats and
occasionally a win or two each day and want to share with you. Maybe, just maybe, you will feel better about
yourself…at the very least you will know you are not alone in this WAR!
Let me introduce myself, I am
Amanda, a 38 year old single mom of three that have an incredible way of making
me want to pull my hair out one minute and nearly peeing myself with laughter
the next. My house is rarely as clean as
I would like. I have a full-time job
that I will just call “The Office Job”. I do enjoy being able to be insanely detailed,
but the job is tedious and I doubt you will hear much about it. But if you need a cure for insomnia just let
me know. ;) I drive close to 3 hours
each day for that joy…in Dallas/Fort Worth traffic…it is now ok to question my
mental health, I do. Creating is my
passion and who can’t use a few extra bucks?
That is where my small business comes into play. I handcraft handbags, mainly clutches, and
sell on Etsy. That was actually my full
time income for a year, but being your own boss is HARD work. As things often change, so did my needs and
comfort level and I returned to working for “the man”. The transition was not as smooth as I would
have liked, you know that limited number of hours in a day thing, but I do
still love to create. You will see some
of that in the coming posts. I will also
take you through adventures in the kitchen.
Cooking dinner is always interesting…when I do cook that is. I can bake up a storm, but cooking chicken
that is cooked all the way through and NOT so dry you can’t swallow it seems to
be a challenge for me.
Finally to end this post, I
will give you the stats of my team. My
oldest, M, is 17 and a senior in high school.
I am getting crash course lessons on college applications, scholarships
(please, please, please) and all that other ‘fun’ stuff. I know she is so excited to enter this next
chapter of her life but is scares me to death and my heart hurts every time I
think about it. Like I said…FUN!!! We also are working getting ready for her
driving test. FUN…Ha! The favorite guy in my life is my son,
S. As a 14 year old boy with mild (high
functioning) autism and ADD, there is never a dull moment. And at this age I can’t tell if some of our
issues are puberty or the autism…do I help or draw a line and make him step
up?!?! Oh boy, but when he gets in his
head, he thinks like no other and I have no doubt he will accomplish great
things. You should see this kid’s
origami! IMPRESSIVE! The last of my human babies, is the 16 year
old stuck in a 10 year old body, G. At
10, she is into fashion, beauty, organizing, crafts and being in the
kitchen. I think she strives to be a
YouTube sensation someday. To call G “dramatic”
would be selling her short…and I don’t mean that in a good way all the
time. G is like one of those “choose
your own adventure” stories only no one gets to pick the page we jump to. As if
the kids weren’t enough to handle we have a cat, a hamster and my precious
Punky, a bulldog mix. Most of the time
my fur babies are the easiest…most of the time.
;)
Until next time, when I may
actually have something interesting to say…fight on!
